CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN)- There will be an OVI Checkpoint Friday night August 16 in Mahoning County, according to a press release.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that the checkpoint will be happening from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Mahoning Avenue (County Road 18) in Austintown. OSHP will be in conjunction with the Austintown Township Police Department.

Reports said that the checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes. OSHP said that the checkpoint is funded by Federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

Troopers said that if you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink.
