YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The season kicks off from Stambaugh Stadium with a battle between powerhouses, Walsh Jesuit and Ursuline.

The Fighting Irish are seeking another deep run in the playoffs and their fourth consecutive 10-win season.

Walsh Jesuit received the opening kickoff. The Warrior quarterback Keller Moten gained 17-yards on their first play from scrimmage. From there, Walsh Jesuit registered three more first downs; including a 4th-down pass play from Moten to Millan Parris.

On the last play of the initial drive, Moten connected on a backward pass to Aiden Henry, who found Parris wide open for a 20-yard touchdown strike with 7:57 left in the opening quarter.

Ursuline’s D.C. Ferrell found Jy’Quise Liason to cross midfield on its first possession. However, the drive was upended by the Warriors as the Irish fumbled the ball into the endzone where Walsh Jesuit came away with the ball.

A couple of plays later; however, DaShaun Will intercepted Moten and returned the pick back to the Warrior 35-yard line.

From there, Joe Balog closed out Ursuline’s second drive with an 11-yard score on the ground to tie things up at 7 apiece.

To begin the second quarter, Walsh Jesuit’s drive stalled but Freddie Marcell came onto the field to boot through a 29-yard field goal to give the Warriors a 3-point lead (10-7).

After a short punt by Ursuline, the Warriors tacked on another score. This time, it was their quarterback Moten, who dashed in from 18-yards away to give Walsh Jesuit a 17-7 advantage.

With under a minute to play in the half, Moten linked up with Dom Romanini in the back of the end zone as the Warriors extend the lead to 24-7.

The Fighting Irish weren’t backing down. On the last play of the first half, Ursuline had the ball inside the Warrior five-yard line. Karter Rudzik came in to play quarterback, pitching the ball back to D.C. Ferrell – who found AJ Snyder in the endzone from 2-yards out to give Ursuline a boost of momentum as the Irish trail by just 10 at the intermission (24-14).

To begin the second half, Ursuline finished off the opening possession with a touchdown – a 19-yard toss from Ferrell to Devonte Taylor – to cut even more into Walsh Jesuit’s lead (24-21).

The Warriors recovered a loose ball on the Ursuline 44-yard line. From there, Marty Tobin and Carlos Smith carried the load for Walsh Jesuit. Moten went in unscathed from one-yard out to pad the Warriors advantage to 9-points (30-21).

On the ensuing kickoff, Jy’Quise Liason nearly gained 70-yards on the return back inside the red zone. On the first play from scrimmage, Ferrell went right up the middle for a 16-yard touchdown run. Anthony Tabak’s point after was successful. Ursuline trailed, 30-28, with just over eleven minutes to play.
