WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Summer was busy for Alta Head Start. It expanded into Trumbull County and that’s leading to hiring.

Its growth has created a big opportunity. Alta has 11 locations in Mahoning County serving 760 children. With the expansion, Alta will now have over 20 locations and over 1,100 children.

“So that’s adding about 23 to 24 classrooms in Trumbull County that we need to fill,” said Vince Paolucci, chief operating officer of Alta Head Start.

The program is looking for education professionals. Each of those classes needs a lead teacher and assistant teacher. The lead teacher works in conjunction with the assistant teacher in each room.

“The assistant teachers, basically the classroom aides, help the lead teacher with classroom management, help with lunch and nutrition. They work outdoor play activities and a lot of those kinds of things,” Paolucci said. “It’s really for those that are wanting to really work with children and help them grow and develop.”

Head Start develops the physical, educational, social, and emotional needs of children. It follows the Step Up to Quality standards, which are set by the Head Start program — but the position is flexible.

“We’re also looking for teachers to add their own creative flair to it, their own ideas, and so they can be independent in what they do in their classroom,” Paolucci said.

The jobs are Monday through Friday — no nights or weekends. Alta Head Start provides a generous benefits package with professional development opportunities. It’s an opportunity to be part of a team helping the next generation.

“It’s really a family that we’re trying to develop here. Everyone helps each other in the classrooms. Each of our buildings has its own family that develops, and they kind of help each other out, so there’s a lot of support,” Paolucci said

Alta is holding a hiring event on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at Campus of Care, 1960 E. County Line Rd., Mineral Ridge. Another one is scheduled at the time on Monday at 2020 Willard Ave. SE, Warren.

There are other positions available, too. Resumes are encouraged but not required to attend. More employment information is available online.
