SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) — To kick off Hunger Action Month, the Mercer County Food Bank is hosting its first pack-a-thon.

The 24-hour event, called “Ready, Set, Go Orange!” started at 9 a.m. Friday and it ends Saturday morning.

The day started with a race between mascots from local schools and companies “racing” to end hunger. Throughout the 24 hours, the food bank is expecting over 100 volunteers from schools, organizations, and companies.

The volunteers will get tours of the facility and pack boxes of food. Between 1,000 and 2,000 boxes of food are expected to be put together during the pack-a-thon.

“So it’s our first year for ‘Ready, Set, Go Orange!’ Our development team was just looking for something fun and energetic to get the community involved to come down to the food bank and see what we do,” said Becky Page, of Mercer County Food Bank.

The Mercer County Food Bank bus will be outside the facility during the event accepting food donations.
