ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Ascension Sacred Heart in the Perdido Key area plans for a new emergency room to be completed next summer.

The 11,000-square-foot emergency room will have a resuscitation room, nine treatment spaces, a triage area, and CT and X-ray scanning technology. This ER allows the opportunity for 40 new healthcare positions to open up.

In just the last six years, President and CEO of Pensacola Sacred Heart, Will Condon, is proud to have built two other freestanding emergency departments, one in Navarre and the other off the Nine Mile Road location in Pensacola.

“Whenever we open up a new free-standing ED, just like the ones we have one Nine Mile Road and Navarre, these are brand new positions, brand new people to our health system, really growing jobs in our community,” said Condon.

Just this past July, Sacred Heart was named the only hospital on the panhandle to offer Level 1 trauma care, after achieving the standard required by the Florida Department of Health.

“So really excited that we’re going to be bringing that level of expertise of emergency care to the folks of Perdido,” said Condon. “When emergency happens, you really don’t plan on it, but now knowing that we have that spot in Perdido, can get to patients faster on that side of the county, that’s exactly what we’re here for.”

Condon said certain components of the freestanding emergency room would be built off-site and then shipped to the Scared Heart Perdido Key location. He hopes to break ground in December, with a goal completion date of July 2025.

Sacred Heart has provided care to the Perdido Key community for over 35 years. Their hope with this new ER is to bring mission-driven healthcare to more patients across Northwest Florida.
