BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A family in Brewton is doing all they can to help their teenage daughter while she waits for a second kidney transplant at age 16. Family members are trying to raise money to help with the challenges that come with unique medical care.

Family members fight a cheerful battle for 16-year-old Hadyn Brake. The Brewton teenager is waiting on her second kidney transplant and three times a week spends hours traveling to Birmingham and back for dialysis.

“Being in the car and then having to sit and do dialysis for 4 to 5 hours, depending on waiting to be hooked up. Yeah, that’s the hardest thing. Miss Hadyn, if you ask her, that’s her biggest complaint, is that she has to sit too long,” said grandmother Donelle Bass.

Family members set up booths to sell food and crafts at the Battle of Fort Mims commemoration in north Baldwin County this weekend. Family members say Hadyn got a kidney transplant from her grandmother when she was just 18 months old and recently, it began to fail.

“Since she was born, that’s all she knows is kidney transplant or anti-rejection drugs or strict diet. That’s all she knows,” said Bass. “So much, what touches my heart is how resilient and how strong the sick children are. And they’re in all different shapes and sizes, babies. But they always got a smile on their face.”

The family has set up a Gofundme page here .
