Part of 9/11 memorial sculpture in Pensacola missing

PENSACOLA, Fla. ( WKRG ) — A memorial on display in Downtown Pensacola honors the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Now, questions have surfaced over whether that memorial was vandalized.

“It was a one-of-a-kind, probably never be able to be duplicated and now it’s destroyed, or that portion is destroyed,” Daniel Lindemann said.

Daniel Lindemann, owner of A&J Mugs on Palafox Street, was walking his dog about two weeks ago when he noticed a piece of the sculpture was missing.

“I didn’t see any of it laying around so I called the city and said hey the monuments got a piece missing what’s up,” Lindemann said.

The sculpture, “9/11 Homage to America” was created by artists Peter King and Xinia Marin and donated to the city.

“Anytime a prominent artist like Peter King gives you something to commemorate a very special event in our nation’s history it’s something that should be cherished and taken care of,” Lindemann said.

The City and Lindemann are hoping someone with information will reach out to determine what exactly may have happened to the memorial.

“If you’ve got it please bring it back and let us put that piece back and restore it to honor the people that were senselessly killed on 9/11,” Lindemann said.
