    Mobile man to serve time behind bars after 2021 drug bust

    MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A Mobile man is set to spend the next few years behind bars as he was sentenced to prison for drug crimes, according to the United States Department of Justice.

    According to a USDOJ press release, United States District Court Judge Kristi K. DuBose
    sentenced Tymel Rashad Franklin to prison for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking on Friday, Aug. 23.

    The sentence stems from Jan. 6, 2021, when a confidential informant with the Mobile Police Department purchased around an ounce of methamphetamine from Franklin, the release said.

    Officials said that at the time of the sale to the informant, Franklin, who had a previous conviction of receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana, had a Glock 32 handgun in his waistband, a digital scale with methamphetamine and marijuana residue in his pocket, and $2,649 in cash.

    Franklin was sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to the release.

    The release said that the case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and the City of Mobile Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George F. May.
