    Rabies clinics scheduled for September: Mobile County Health Department

    MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Mobile County Health Department has scheduled its low-cost rabies weekend clinics for the month of September.

    During these clinics, dogs, cats, and ferrets are given a rabies shot that is good for one year.

    The clinics are planned for weekends in September and are as follows:

    Sept. 7 10 a.m. to noon City of Mobile Animal Shelter (855 Owens
    Street)
    Sept. 14 10 a.m. to noon Mobile County Animal Shelter (7665 Howells
    Ferry Road)
    Sept. 14 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Pet Supplies Plus (803 Hillcrest Road)
    Sept. 21 8 a.m. to noon Eddie Smith’s Country Store (14045 Celeste
    Road)
    Sept. 27 9 a.m. to noon Prichard Animal Shelter (2402 West Rebel Road)
    Sept. 28 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. B&B Pet Stop (5035 Cottage Hill Road)

    The clinics are drive-through and the cost for the vaccine is $12 per pet.

    “Rabies is a virus that attacks the central nervous system,” read the MCHD news release. “It is transmitted from infected mammals to humans and is fatal once the symptoms appear.”

    In 2023, MCHD rabies officers vaccinated 2,004 household pets.
