MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Alabama Rawdogs won the Babe Ruth World Series title in dominant fashion last week and received a warm welcome home in Semmes.

The Rawdogs won the 16-18 age group world series title in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, going a perfect 8-0 in the tournament.

“I feel amazing, just on top of the world right now,” Rawdogs second baseman Joseph Stephens said. “Feels surreal. Just crazy. It feels great.”

The Rawdogs took down Kelso of Washington State, 1-0, in the championship game.

“This year, I think we’ve done pretty good with it,” Rawdogs pitcher Connor English said. “We [were] cheering on our teammates and stuff.”

“Starting off the very first practice, coaches told us that they had the team to go all the way and bring it home, and we just kept that mentality all summer,” Rawdogs pitcher Will Thomas said. “And we came through undefeated through the World Series and brought it home.”

The title is the 12th World Series Championship in the Alabama Rawdogs team history, and they are now on the hunt for No. 13.

“It’s unbelievable,” Alabama Rawdogs head coach Tony Hendrix said. “It’s a lot of hard work. It just paid off. It’s just really a group of kids who earned it and deserved it.”
