    2 injured by ‘reckless gunfire’ in Nashville, police say

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man has been arrested after allegedly firing a weapon and injuring two people Saturday night in Nashville.

    The Metro Nashville Police Department stated officers near the scene heard gunshots around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 and responded to the incident taking place in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue South.

    The officers aided two victims, identified as a 47-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, both from Nashville.

    The woman claimed that she and the man were trying to leave a parking lot in a Nissan Altima when she drove near a group of people, according to police. People in the group began yelling at her, and several women approached her car and allegedly started striking her through the window of the Altima.

    The man got out of the car and began firing shots into the air in an attempt to end the conflict., authorities said

    The female driver then reportedly heard someone else firing a gun in response to the man’s shots. The 47-year-old was shot multiple times, and the 44-year-old was shot in the shoulder.

    Witnesses identified the suspect’s vehicle, a gray Infiniti, attempting to leave the scene. An officer then moved in front of the Infiniti and ordered the driver to stop. The suspect, Jeremi Ford, 39, of Nashville, continued to drive towards the officer, police said.

    Authorities stated that the officer moved out of the way and Ford pulled into a parking lot. The suspect and three women who were in the car with him were arrested.

    Ford was identified as the shooter but refused to be interviewed by law enforcement. Police said he has prior felony drug convictions, adding that he was last arrested in April on two felony probation violations stemming from a case in 2007.

    According to officials, Ford is now charged with two counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault against a first responder, possession of a gun as a felon, and reckless endangerment as a result of the shooting. He is being held in Metro Jail on a $560,000 bond.

    Both victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for their injuries and are expected to recover.
