Body found in wooded area of Grundy County, authorities say

GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several days after sharing a woman’s social media post about her son going missing, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office announced a body has been discovered.

The sheriff’s office shared a Facebook post from Lori Morgan on Tuesday, Aug. 6, where she asked for help locating her son, Shawn Jacobs, who was last seen on Saturday, Aug. 3 in the “Coalmont/Tracy City/Monteagle” area.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, authorities said they found Jacobs’ vehicle in Grundy County, so they searched the immediate area, with some help from multiple law enforcement and emergency management agencies. However, they didn’t find Jacobs anywhere near the vehicle.

Then, on Saturday, Aug. 10, the sheriff’s office posted a body was found in a wooded area in Coalmont. While positive identification will require an autopsy, officials said they believe the body belongs to Jacobs.

“The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office can’t express the help that was received in this case. Grundy County EMA, Franklin County EMA, Coffee County EMA, Monteagle Fire and Rescue, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Constable Kyle Collins , TWRA, J&B Construction, Grundy EMS, and all the volunteers,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “These agencies have been working from daylight to dark in the matter of these searches and we can’t express our gratefulness enough. We send our prayers and condolences to the family.”

No additional details have been released about this ongoing investigation.
