LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers ahead of Labor Day Weekend.

According to The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning , Labor Day is one of the deadliest times of year to be out on the roads. Since 2019, there have been 44 driver fatalities in traffic crashes in Michigan. About 43.2% of the drivers killed were alcohol or drug-related.

“Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after you’ve been drinking or taking drugs endangers you, your passengers and everyone else on the road,” said Katie Bower, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP).

“The aim of the enforcement campaign is to drastically reduce deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired driving.”

The “‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign begins tomorrow and will last until Sept. 2nd.
