LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– The Restaurant Meal Program helps seniors and food assistance recipients to a hot, quality meal.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), says eligible participants can buy meals from participating restaurants with their Bridge Card, similar to buying groceries.

MDHHS first launched the meal program on January 1, 2021, for residents who have trouble preparing their food because of disabilities, age, or lack of kitchen access.

“The Restaurant Meal Program expands options for individuals who need hot prepared meals,” said Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director. “Additional restaurants are joining the program regularly and the goal is to provide this service in every county in the state.”

People who qualify are adults over 60, people who receive disability or blindness payments, people who receive retirement benefits from a governmental agency because of a disability that is considered permanent, and people experiencing homelessness and these individuals’ spouses are among those who are eligible.
