LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The suspect in a Sunday morning assault of an 18-year-old woman in Calhoun County has yet to be taken into custody, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies were conducting routine patrols at N Helmer Rd and Lafayette Ave when they were approached by the woman, who reported being assaulted by a 28-year-old male relative at a home on the 100 block of Milton Ave. in Pennfield Township.

Police described the woman as being “visibly distraught,” and say she claimed the man involved had used a gun in the altercation.

The woman was escorted to a substation of the sheriff’s department for further questioning.

Police say they believed the man to still be on scene and in possession of the gun. Other family members were also believed to be inside the home.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the home with assistance from K9 units, the Detective Bureau, hostage negotiators, and the CCSO Special Response Team.

All family members and children inside the house were located and taken to a safe location, but the suspect was not found after a systematic search of the home.

Police know the man’s identity and are actively continuing to search for him, though they have not found him yet. 6 News will keep you updated with the latest.
