CLARENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a small plane made an emergency landing in a cornfield in Calhoun County.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on R Drive between 21 Mile and 22 Mile roads in Clarendon Township.

The plane, a 1958 Mooney aircraft, made the emergency landing due to engine failure, according to the sheriff’s office.

The pilot, a 54-year-old man from Moab, Utah, told deputies he had already purchased the aircraft in the Grand Rapids area and was on his way to an airfield in Ohio when the engine failed. He was not injured, the sheriff’s office said.

The Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the crash.
