LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — An individual has died after a single-vehicle crash in Livingston County Sunday afternoon, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were dispatched to a welfare check on eastbound I-96 east of Latson Rd in Genoa Township to check on what the caller described as an overturned vehicle or couch in the median.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found a 2019 Nissan Altima overturned.

According to the sheriff’s department, the car was traveling east on I-96 when it went off the roadway into the median, hitting a tree and flipping over.

The driver has not been identified and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The sheriff’s department says that speed, alcohol, and drugs appear to be involved in the crash.

Responders partially closed the road for four hours for investigation and clean-up.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau
