    Heat causes school delays and half-days

    LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — With recent temperatures soaring and not looking to come down any time soon, local schools have been forced to close or release students early.

    Grand Ledge High School will delay its first day of school to Wednesday due to a malfunctioning chiller in its air conditioner system.

    Webberville Community Schools will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 27th, though the Wilson Talent Center will be in session with transportation and the Spartan Center weight room will also remain open.

    Fowlerville Community Schools will have a half day and conclude class early on Tuesday, Aug. 27th. Secondary students will be released at 10:42 a.m., and elementary students will be released at 12:02 p.m. There will be no school lunch service provided.

    Jackson Public Schools will also have a half-day on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Here are the times of dismissal for each school:

    • Cascades: 11:48 a.m.
    • Dibble: 11:55 a.m.
    • Hunt: 10:35 a.m.
    • JPS Montessori: 10:55 a.m.
    • John R. Lewis: 11:40 a.m.
    • Northeast: 11:35 a.m.
    • Sharp Park: 11:50 a.m.
    • 4th St. Learning Center: 10:35 a.m.
    • Parkside: 10:00 a.m.
    • Jackson High & Jackson Pathways: 10:45 a.m.
