An old and vacant PAL (Police Athletic League) center in South Baltimore got a reboot.

Mayor Brandon Scott, city leaders, and Baltimore City Recreation & Parks cut the ribbon on the new Carroll Park Recreation Center.

What is the price tag for this investment? Two million dollars.

“Sadly many of our playgrounds, ball fields, pools, and rec centers haven’t been touched in decades but under my administration were committed to changing that part of Baltimore’s story,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott.

It will include a large multi-purpose gym, a lounge, classrooms, and offices.

Tim Smith, Executive Director of Southwest Baltimore Charter Schools, says it's something children and adults in the community are looking forward to, "Growing up going to the school since kindergarten I personally never seen the rec center open or working, neither has my mom or my grandma who grew up here and still live here.”

Folks living in the area say the center is dedicated to making the community safer while giving the youth in the neighborhood a place to grow.

The center itself is another big move for Baltimore's recreation rollout project, which aims to revamp outdated parks around the city.
