BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford has returned home from a trip to Taylor County to provide hurricane relief.

Ford and a group of deputies left Monday after Hurricane Debby struck the Big Bend area.

Compared to Idalia last year and Ian the year before, Ford said the overall damages were not bad. The majority of residents are dealing with power outages and flooding.

Ford said it’s important for neighboring communities to support those in need.

“This is a humanitarian mission. Get out with people, talk to them, take them water, take them to the military MREs. If you can help, if they’re working on something in their yard, they need help, we’ll try to help them with that kind of thing,” Ford said.

Ford said local deputies should return to Bay County Friday or Saturday as long as power is restored.
