BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Bay County Commissioners are hoping the state will select and approve a proposed workforce housing development.

The multi-family Patriot Pointe development is slated for a 6-acre parcel in Callaway, off Gay Avenue.

Local developer Royal American Management and Green Mills Holdings are behind the project.
It is specifically being built near Tyndall Air Force Base.

The housing will be income-based and 50 percent will be set aside for military personnel.

“This is a new thing from the live local act that the state legislature passed during a session last year is that they’re putting more money out for affordable workforce-related housing projects, be multifamily, be single family, but just ways for communities to be able to address throughout the state and being able to assist with housing. With this as part of the live local act, they are specifically focusing on housing near military installations and they do they’re doing it according to regions throughout the state.”

On Tuesday, Commissioners moved to submit the project to the state for consideration. The state could select the winning project in October.
