GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — East Carolina University representatives said they have more students enrolled this year than in years past.

They have more than 4,000 first-year students, 1,500 transfer students and a little less than 2,000 graduate students. School officials said there are many reasons for the increase, but one is programs that help non-traditional students.

“We are realizing and have for some time. You know, he has been North Carolina’s leader all on education for a long time, but I think it’s students realizing that brand and what we’re bringing to the table and knowing that they have that we understand there are different needs that an adult learner might need,” Associate Provost for Learner Operations at ECU Allen Guidry said. “And so, I think that’s really appealing to folks as we’re trying to meet them where they are in their lives, That’s key to our strategy as we reach these different types of learners than we’ve seen in the past.”

They also have the most students living on campus since 2019. Their retention rates are also rising and they have increases in both in- and out-of-state students, as well as, international students.
