First-year Woonsocket Connie Mack baseball team begins playoffs next Monday night
COVENTRY – The Woonsocket Connie Mack baseball team did its best to climb out of an early four-run deficit in its matchup with Coventry on Monday night at Paine Field, but the hosts held on for a 4-2 victory that dropped Woonsocket’s record to 3-6. Coventry pitcher Griffin Frenze tossed a four-hitter, with two of the hits coming from Woonsocket’s youngest player, Tyler Zapata. In the top of the fifth, Dan Delmonico led off with a double and came home on a single to left by Zapata, and in the sixth, C.J. Singleton drove in Jordan Furtado with a two-out line single to left.
