SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a driver was pronounced dead at the hospital Thursday after a crash in Silver Creek Township.

It happened just before noon on Garrett Road north of M-62, according to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say a car was heading south on Garrett Road when it crossed the center line, left the roadway to the east, went down a ditch, rolled and came to a stop in a field, trapping the driver underneath the car.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver, 33-year-old Amanda Huffman of Niles, was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

The passenger, a 33-year-old Niles man, was also taken to the hospital but refused medical treatment, the release says.

Deputies say the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts when the crash happened. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved.

    The crash remains under investigation.
