Summer heat returns for last week of August

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — August has been a fairly cool month overall with 16 days reporting below average high temperatures. The cool streak is coming to a sharp end into the last full weekend of August.

WELCOME BACK 90s

While Grand Rapids typically sees around 11 days in the 90s throughout summer, only three days have hit the mark. In fact, it’s been quite a while since West Michigan saw 90s.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to reach or exceed 90° for most of West Michigan. Paired with the heat, dew points are on the rise. The feels-like temperatures will be near triple digits, especially on Tuesday.

Air quality may be an issue through the start of the week due to moderately unhealthy ozone levels. Air quality was considered to be moderate on Saturday with moderate conditions forecast to continue through at least Monday.

STAYING WARM THROUGH LABOR DAY

While temperatures will begin to cool a bit mid-week, the 80s are expected to stick around into Labor Day weekend. The average high in Grand Rapids at that point should fall into the upper 70s.

As cooler air builds off to the west, the area will likely see temperatures fall to near or below average by the second week of September.
