SPENCER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Greenville man was killed in a crash in northeastern Kent County Monday morning, authorities say.

It happened just after 8 a.m. on 19 Mile Road near Montcalm Avenue in Spencer Township, northwest of Greenville.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said the driver of an eastbound Hyundai Genesis was trying to pass in a no-passing zone at a “high rate of speed” when he came up over a small hill and hit a westbound BMW.

The driver of the Genesis, a 19-year-old Greenville man, was killed. His name was not released later Monday.

His passenger, an 18-year-old Sumner woman, and the driver of the BMW, a 39-year-old Battle Creek man, sustained minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office said speed is considered a factor in the crash.
