GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two events happening in Grand Rapids in the next few weeks are aimed at helping people prepare for and find employment.

An Employment Readiness Event will be happening on the 5th floor of the Kent County Courthouse Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s open to the public. Participants will be able to create resumes and cover letters as well as practice interview skills, according to Sarah Breen, clerk of the 61st District Court.

A public job fair will be held at the same location two weeks later, on Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Employers will be on site to meet with participants and hold interviews.

The event is a collaborative effort, hosted by the 61st District Court’s Eviction Diversion Team, the Urban League of West Michigan, Express Employment Professionals and Hope Network. It’s aim is to “equip attendees with the necessary tools for long-term stability,” wrote Breen in a release.

Housing, education, employment and crisis intervention support and resources will be provided by several community organizations including Meaning in Colors, Kent ISD Adult Education and the Dispute Resolution Center. Free school supplies and other giveaways will be available to early attendees, according to Breen.
