The Buckaroos are sending 10 total athletes to the OSAA 1A track and field state championships at Hayward Field in Eugene after their performances at the Special District 1 Championships on May 10-11.

St. Paul crowned four individual champions across the two days of competition. Senior Meredith Coleman won the 100 meters in 13.48 seconds, while Ralph Pohlschneider won the 400 in a personal best of 50.38. Branson Cook stood alone in two disciplines, winning the high jump and clearing a personal best of 6 foot, 4 inches. In the triple jump, he won with a personal best mark of 42-0.75

James Davidson took the crown in the shot put, throwing 44-8 while recording a new personal best.

"Job's not finished," Davidson said after the shot put podium presentations. "We've got a whole another week. … But I'm hyped. Just glad I can make the people around me proud and pay back their support with a victory."

Besides their individual titles, each of St. Paul's district champions placed well enough to qualify for state in multiple events. Davidson finished second in the discus with a toss of 125-2, while Cook recorded a personal best of 20-9.25 in the long jump, finishing second. Ralph Pohlschneider set a personal best of 23.25 in the 200 meters, finishing second.

In the 4x100 relay, Ralph Pohlschneider, George Pohlschneider, Cook and Diego Medina finished second in 44.91. Grady Wolf joined the Pohlschneider's and Medina on the 4x400 relay, finishing second and clocking in at 3:36.91.

Coleman was joined by Gracie Koch, Stella Koch and Ariana Campos in the 4x400 relay, winning in a time of 4:30.46. The quartet finished second in the 4x100 relay, crossing in 53.09. Gracie Koch also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, registering a season best of 17.44.

In the girls high jump, Julia Heimuller improved by over three inches as she cleared a new personal best of 4-9.75, finishing second. Heimuller was one of two Watchmen to qualify for the state championships last season.

"I'm really proud of this season and of my coaching staff. We worked really hard for this and there's been a lot more support," Heimuller said. "Last year really set this foundation."

On the boys side, Dylan Brown, who joined Heimuller at state last season, earned two wildcard selections to qualify for state. He finished fifth in the high jump at 5-8 and fifth in the long jump at 19-6.75.
