MONROE COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Radio listeners, listen up.

There’s a way to hear local music talent 24 hours a day with no interruptions, and it’s just gone live in Monroe County.

Impact WMCR is an online-only station from Woodsfield’s Monroe Theater, where the songs heard on its stage are sent over the digital airwaves.

Aside from the country, bluegrass and rock, listeners also have a talk program for drive time from 8 to 9 am.

The broadcasts are a booster both for unsigned talent and the Theater itself, which is undergoing renovations worth several million dollars.

“Advertising is a rough way. You know, you’ve got local newspapers that [are] maybe weekly, maybe twice a month, and it’s really hard to get that word out. So we thought rather than pay a radio station, let’s just start our own.”

Mick Schumacher, President, Monroe Arts Council

The station just capped its first live event at Monroe County’s Alumni Weekend parade.

The sound of the Ohio Valley is broadcasting right now here .
