CHICAGO — Three Illinois farms, including two in the northern part of the state, are among 75 around the United States and Canada taking part in an ‘a-maze-ing’ tribute to Peanuts, one of America’s beloved comic strips.

Themed corn and sunflower mazes featuring twists and turns shaped like Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang are being crafted across 35 states and provinces to celebrate the comic strip’s 75th anniversary. The mazes range in size from 1.5 to 20 acres.

“For 75 years, Peanuts has charmed, delighted, and moved fans through my father’s creativity and wit—and what a wonderful, larger-than-life way to celebrate his work than with the ingenuity of these Peanuts corn mazes!” Jill Schulz, the daughter of creator Charles Schulz, said in a statement. “It will be a thrill to see Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang rising from the heartland, and I just wish my dad could see his creations ‘writ large’.”

In northern Illinois, mazes will be crafted at All Season’s Orchard in Woodstock and at the Kuiper’s Family Farm in Maple Park.

‘Peanuts’ made its debut in seven newspapers in October 1950. The last strip was published in February, 2000.
