Ohio Attorney General Sues Brooklyn-Based Home Warranty Operation for Alleged Consumer Deception
Ohio's legal challenge to home warranty provider First Premier Home Warranty and its owner has escalated. Attorney General Dave Yost files a lawsuit accusing them of duping consumers through deceptive business promises. In a statement obtained by the Ohio Attorney General's Office, Yost articulated the contention that Ohio residents are entitled to the services they are promised and paid for, asserting, "Ohioans deserve reliable services when they pay a company their hard-earned money," and adding that "Honest businesses do what they say they're going to do – false promises won't hold up."
GasBuddy: See how much prices are expected to drop at the pump in Toledo area ahead of Labor Day
TOLEDO, Ohio — Gas prices in the Toledo area have dropped nearly 17 cents over the last week, an analyst for GasBuddy says. A gallon of gas costs, on average, $3.22 in Toledo as of Monday, according to a GasBuddy survey of 315 gas stations. Prices at the pump are 38 cents lower than a month ago.
Local family, Metroparks team up for Oak Openings corridor project
SWANTON — Big Sandy Campground’s expected ownership transfer this fall has prompted Metroparks Toledo to acquire 113 acres of adjacent land in the Oak Openings corridor for hiking and other light recreation. Alicia Lawson, a Toledo native who co-owns a local family-owned business called Superior Made, told The Blade in an interview Tuesday that she and her husband, fellow Toledo native Nathan Lawson, have an agreement in place to purchase Big Sandy for $1.3 million. Closing is expected in October. Superior Made RV Resort, the campground’s future name, will be owned and operated by the couple and other family members. The two are longtime RV enthusiasts who built and operated Time Away RV Resort in Lincoln, Ala., a few years ago. The Lawsons sold the Alabama property after they made the decision to move back to Toledo.
Bowling Green firefighters raising funds to fight cancer
BOWLING GREEN — The City of Bowling Green Fire Division Union is selling breast-cancer awareness T-shirts as part of its annual awareness fund-raiser. The long-sleeve and short-sleeve shirts produced by 3Cord feature the message “Extinguish Breast Cancer,” and proceeds will be donated to the Wood County Hospital Oncology Department. TPD: Man made videos of teen girl getting in and out of shower
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Toledo man faces felony charges for allegedly taking videos of a teenage girl getting in and out of the shower while she was nude, police said. Justin John Carmony, 35, is accused of taking videos of the 15-year-old on two separate occasions this month, according to court documents.
Union members remember worker killed at Toledo Jeep plant
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Members of UAW Local 12 are remembering their friend who was killed this past week in an accident at the Toledo Jeep Assembly Complex. Antonio Gaston, 53, of Toledo, died when he was working on the Jeep Gladiator line tightening undercarriage body bolts, according to police. It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 21.
