The 2023-24 high school sports seasons are in the books. The spring Patriot Ledger/Enterprise All-Scholastics are right around the corner.

In the interim, we're working on a project that you, the readers, can help us with.

We want to select a 2023-24 High School Team of the Year from Ledgerland. We'll also be selecting a Male High School Athlete of the Year and a Female High School Athlete of the Year. These all cover the fall, winter and spring seasons for the just-concluded school year.

For Team of the Year we've narrowed the list down to 25 choices, all of whom made it to either MIAA or NEPSAC championship games.

Now we'd like you to vote for the team you think should be crowned No. 1 on the South Shore. Your vote will be part of the formula we use to select the winner. Our staff -- Chris McDaniel, Jason Snow, Ryan Vermette and Eric McHugh -- also will weigh in and we'll wind up with an overall winner.

    Voting ends on July 29.

Here are the choices, listed alphabetically by school:

    BC High baseball

The top-seeded Eagles (20-5) won their first Div. 1 state championship since 2009, beating No. 2 St. John's (Shrewsbury), 5-1, in the final at Polar Park in Worcester to avenge a pair of regular-season losses to the Pioneers.

    BC High rugby

The second-seeded Eagles (6-0-1 vs. in-state opponents) won the Div. 1 state title as a No. 2 seed, beating No. 4 Xaverian, 40-38, in the final.

    Canton girls volleyball

The third-seeded Bulldogs (24-1) made it all the way to the Div. 2 state final before losing, 3-0, to top-seeded Westborough, which claimed its second straight crown. The 24 wins were the most in program history.

    Carver football

Coming off a 3-8 campaign in 2022, the Crusaders (11-2) reinvented themselves. Carver won the South Shore League Tobin Division for the first time since 2000 and lost to top-seeded West Boylston in the Div. 8 Super Bowl.

    Cohasset girls lacrosse

The third-seeded Skippers (19-3) won the Div. 4 state championship, beating No. 4 Ipswich, 14-9, in the title game. It was the program's third crown in eight years.

    Duxbury football

The top-seeded Dragons (11-1) successfully defended their Div. 4 state crown, beating Scituate, 62-33, in the final as Alex Barlow rushed for 275 yards and 5 TDs. It was the highest-scoring MIAA Super Bowl ever, and the Dragons' point total was the most ever by one team.

    Duxbury girls hockey

The top-seeded Dragons (24-3) rolled to a second straight Div. 2 state title, blanking No. 2 Falmouth, 4-0, in the final at TD Garden. Duxbury ended the season on a nine-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 33-6.

    Hanover football

    Hanover girls soccer

The fourth-seeded Hawks (21-1-1) lost in the Div. 3 state final to No. 4 Norwell, 1-0. Hanover was the defending state champ.

    Marshfield boys lacrosse

You can't get much closer to a title than this -- the fourth-seeded Rams (19-4) lost the Div. 2 state final to No. 3 Longmeadow, 11-10, in triple-overtime. Marshfield won a thriller in the semis, toppling No. 1 Duxbury, 10-9.

    Norwell boys soccer

The third-seeded Clippers (20-2-2) edged No. 4 Pembroke on penalties to claim the Div. 3 state championship as Joshua Kue had the walk-off winner. As in 2021, it was a double celebration as the Norwell girls also won on the same field on the same day.

    Norwell girls soccer

The fourth-seeded Clippers (23-1-1) edged No. 3 Hanover, 1-0, in the final to win the Div. 3 state crown as Anja Johnson produced the lone goal with 23 minutes left. As in 2021, it was a double celebration as the Norwell boys also won on the same field on the same day.

    Norwell girls basketball

The second-seeded Clippers (23-2) dropped their opener and then didn't lose again until No. 1 Foxboro beat them in the Div. 3 state final. It was Norwell's first appearance in a title game since 1989.

    Notre Dame Academy girls soccer

The fourth-seeded Cougars (16-6-3) won the Div. 2 state title, beating No. 6 Mansfield, 1-0, in the final on a goal by Holy Cross-bound senior Sydney Comeau in the 71st minute. It was NDA's first crown since 2013.

You can't get much closer to a title than this -- the top-seeded Cougars (18-5-2) lost the Div. 1 state final to No. 2 St. Mary's (Lynn), 5-4, in triple-overtime at TD Garden. NDA had been bidding for its third state crown.

    Notre Dame Academy girls lacrosse

    Scituate boys lacrosse

Led by standout junior Willy Robinson, the second-seeded Sailors (19-6) made it to the Div. 3 state final, losing to top-seeded Medfield, 13-4.
