    Roundup: MOT Seniors two wins from Series; Indian River's Illian transfers to UD

    MOT downed Rhode Island, 14-1, in the East Region semifinals of the Senior League softball tournament on Monday afternoon.

    The victory puts the Delaware state champions just two wins away from reaching the World Series.

    MOT (3-1) will face Connecticut (4-0) in Tuesday’s semifinals at 5:30 p.m. in Worcester, Mass. The finals will be held on Wednesday.

    The East champion earns a spot in the Senior League World Series being played in Lower Sussex.

    On Monday, MOT broke open the contest with an eight-run fourth inning. Saniyah Norman had a two-run single in the outburst.

    Winning pitcher Myranda Talmadge gave up just one hit, struck out four and walked three in four and one third innings. Bridget Archer also had two RBI for MOT, which had 14 hits in the game.

    Worcester and New Jersey play in the other semifinal.

    Junior League

    Lower Sussex 15, New Jersey 11: The Delaware state champions finished 3-3 in pool play in the East Regional being played in Orange, Conn.

    With a record of 3-3, Lower Sussex was waiting to see if it advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals.

    Baseball

    Intermediate

    MOT 18, New Hampshire 5: The Middletown squad rolled into the winners’ bracket finals of the Intermediate baseball East Regional on Monday morning.

    The Delaware state champions are now 3-0 and will face Pennsylvania, which is also 3-0, on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Dover Little League.

    The winner advances to Thursday morning’s East championship game. The East champion earns a spot in the Intermediate World Series in Livermore, Calif.
    MOT has won its three games by a combined 28-11. The Middletown-area squad is now 6-0 in all-star action this summer.

    Little League’s Intermediate division is for players ages 11-13 years old playing on a field with the pitchers’ mound 50 feet from home plate and bases 70 feet apart.

    State champion Brandywine was eliminated with a 12-4 loss to Maryland on Monday afternoon. It finished with a record of 1-2.

    College soccer

    IR’s Illian transferring to UD: Former Indian River High soccer standout is transferring to Delaware after one season at South Carolina.

    A midfielder, Illian played in 18 games as a freshman, tallying three goals and three assists. He was named a Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week as well as a TopDrawerSoccer Top 100 freshman.

    “Jordan is a versatile left-sided player who can offer an attacking threat from advanced or deep-lying areas,” said Delaware coach Tommy McMenemy said.

    “He’s hard working, competitive and possesses a great end product from wide areas.”

    Illian was one of eight signees that the Blue Hens announced. Delaware also added defender Anthony Rowan, a grad transfer who played at Florida Gulf Coast and Marshall.
