'Section 10 in the building': Popular baseball podcast makes first visit to Polar Park

WORCESTER — Jared Carrabis checked off the final box on his pitching bucket list Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the Worcester Red Sox ’ 6-0 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens, the popular podcast host and baseball personality threw out the first pitch at Polar Park. Carrabis already had performed a ceremonial toss at Boston Red Sox , Portland Sea Dogs, Lowell Spinners and Bourne Braves games, but he’d never done so at the Triple-A level .

    At least until this weekend.

“It’s my last infinity stone,” Carrabis, 34, said. “This is the last one that I need to complete. I mean, I can’t imagine there’s very many people that have done that with the Red Sox organization.”

Joining Carrabis on Saturday in the Canal District were the three other hosts of the Section 10 Podcast — Steve Perrault, Coley Mick and Tyler Milliken. The Section 10 Podcast, which talks all things Red Sox baseball, returned to the streaming airwaves this March after a two-year hiatus.

“Getting Section 10 back was like getting my baby back and having my identity back,” Carrabis said. “I just feel complete again.”

“This has been one of the most fun years of my life professionally and, just personally, I never thought that we were going to bring the show back,” Perrault said. “I always thought that I’d be doing stuff with Jared in some capacity down the road, but to be able to bring it back with Underdog (Fantasy) has been great.”

Before any first pitch was tossed, the four podcasters spent time interviewing WooSox players Kristian “Barry Bonds” Campbell , Quinn Priester and Kyle Teel inside the team’s dugout.

Following a similar trip to Double-A Portland earlier this year, it was fun for the foursome of podcasters to connect with a new crop of Red Sox prospects.

“It’s really cool to be able to come down here and establish relationships with them,” Carrabis said, “knowing there’s a really good chance that they’re going to be stars for the Red Sox someday, and we’re going to get to watch their careers unfold from Day 1.”

“It gets you excited for what’s to come with such a young Red Sox core that has been making noise that a lot of people didn’t expect this year,” Milliken said. “And to have this kind of talent one step away, how can you not be excited?”

The four podcasters were gifted WooSox jerseys — with their last names printed on the back — before they stepped out onto the field at Polar Park pregame. Once they were recognized over the public address system, Perrault took a microphone and recited his opening line of the Section 10 Podcast.

“Waddup waddup, Section 10 in the building,” Perrault said into the mic.

Then, the quartet of baseball talking heads took turns tossing pitches to the WooSox bat boy.

    So how’d you guys do?

“It was OK, definitely not the worst out of the group,” said Milliken, who practiced his first pitch with fellow 98.5 The Sports Hub radio head Matt McCarthy earlier this week. “I’d say Jared was (the worst because) he basically almost airmailed it, but I’ll take second worst.”

“I feel solid about it,” Perrault added. “The goal was to look good for the photos, and I think I did a good job of that because I didn’t have any weird faces.”

The podcasters proceeded to jump on the WooSox radio and TV broadcasts before meeting fans inside Sherwood’s Diner from the third to ninth inning.

    Ketchup galore.

For Carrabis, getting the chance to check off his baseball bucket list while visiting Polar Park for the first time — with his Section 10 Podcast co-hosts — was the cherry on top of what’s been an exciting year for the Saugus native.

“I feel whole again,” Carrabis concluded.
