NITRO, WV (WOWK) — A crew of 325 motorcyclists made a pit stop in Nitro as part of the 36th annual Run for the Wall, a cross-country trip from California to Washington, D.C. that honors veterans and their families.

The cross-country motorcycle trip tradition honors those killed in action from all wars, those who went missing, and prisoners of war. It also provides healing among veterans and their families and friends.

The motorcyclists began their journey in Ontario, California, around 37 miles east of Los Angeles. Their final destination is the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. They will reach the end of their trip just in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

The Wall they’re riding to is the Vietnam Memorial. Engraved are the names of service members who were classified as dead, missing or prisoner during the course of the conflict.
