CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Mary C. Snow Elementary students and their families attended the school’s Attendance Improvement Pilot program Friday to learn how important it is for students to make it to class every day.

According to the school’s principal, Destiny Spencer, empty seats don’t just affect students, it affects staff as well.

“Attendance is really important for, for the kids and for the staff. The staff works tirelessly every day to have great lessons, and we want the kids to be here and show up so that they can learn as much as they can. If they’re not here, and they can’t learn,” Spencer said.

Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin was on hand to get the students pumped up while the students’ families were able to learn what goals Mary C. Snow hopes to achieve this school year.
