UPDATE (5:47 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27): Dry conditions cated the perfect storm for brush fires to take off Tuesday. Crews battled a pair of brush fires in Kanawha County Tuesday afternoon.

In the fire on the 6800 block of Allens Fork Road in Sissonville, one home was a total loss and several outbuildings were damaged.

No injuries are being reported, but the Kanawha County Director of Emergency Management says he’s never seen a drought have this kind of effect.

“I’ve been in the fire service 54 years. I’ve never seen it this bad in August,” said C.W. Sigman, Kanawha County Director of Emergency Management. “I’ve seen a few brush fires in August, but not this bad. Our county commission is atune to it. They’re talking about it. The drought is bad. That’s causing a lot of problems. This is just one of them.”
