BOONE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — A community in Boone County is turning to a cause to keep kids safe on the football field.

Community members launched a GoFundMe on Tuesday to raise money for Guardian Caps, a type of helmet which have soft-shell covers that reduce impacts.

The campaign comes as a response to the death of 13-year-old Madison Middle School student Cohen Craddock , who died Saturday after taking a hard hit to the head during football practice the previous day. His father, Ryan Craddock, believes that if he had a Guardian Cap, he may have survived.

The GoFundMe page says every donation will go toward buying a Guardian Cap for as many football players as possible.
