    Huntington murder suspect arrested in St. Albans

    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A man wanted in connection to a Cabell County murder has been arrested in Kanawha County.

    According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Damarquis Dewayne Patterson, 20, of Charleston was arrested around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at an apartment building in St. Albans. He was wanted on charges stemming from a fatal shooting in 2022.

    The USMS Southern District of West Virginia’s CUFFED Task Force, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and St. Albans Police Department collaborated on the arrest.

    Patterson was the last of four suspects in the case. He posted bond after his arraignment and failed to show up to court since then. he was wanted for a circuit court capias warrant for the underlying offense of first-degree murder.

    According to the Huntington Police Department, Christopher J. Johnson, 40, of Huntington, died following a shooting that happened at 6:09 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, in the 1800 block of 9th Avenue in Huntington.

    Law enforcement arrested Malik Hawk, Lawrence Foye and Patterson in January 2023 .

    A Hurricane Police Department officer on Jan. 27 stopped a vehicle for speeding, and Hawk and Foye were in the vehicle. They were arrested on their outstanding murder warrants. Later that day, the U.S. Marshals CUFFED Task Force arrested Patterson in Buffalo, West Virginia.

    Daughtery was arrested nine months after the fatal shooting in Baltimore, Maryland, on Aug. 9, 2023 . He was taken into custody without incident.

    On Aug. 5, 2024, Hawk, Foye and Daughtery all accepted Kennedy pleas in the case . They were all sentenced to a maximum of five years in a West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation facility and will get credit for time served.
