(WOWK) – The extreme drought in Appalachia has really been doing a number on our local creeks, streams and even waterfall alcoves. Cathedral Falls in Fayette County is one of many such places.

The once beautiful site has dried up to nothing more than a trickle . Several visitors from both in and out of state have stated that they have never seen the falls this dry before.

As the drought continues there are still things you can do to help keep the Mountain State wild and wonderful by following good water conservation practices. For information on the West Virginia Save Our Streams program click here.

StormTracker 13 Meteorologists say that the fall seasonal outlook does not suggest too much relief. Our area has equal chances to see more rain than normal, less rain than normal or about normal rainfall for September through November.

Eventually the rain will come, and Cathedral Falls will return to its former glory.
