KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — A man accused of shooting at utility workers and injuring one deputy was indicted, according to the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office at the time, deputies and West Virginia State Police Troopers went to the 9000 block of Wills Creek Road in Clendenin around 7 p.m. on Feb. 13.

The worker that called told dispatchers they believed gunshots were being fired at them and it went on for around 30 minutes, according to the KCSO.

Deputies found out that the suspect was 31-year-old Aaron Grindstaff, of Clendenin. Once on scene, deputies negotiated with Grindstaff for three-and-a-half hours, the KCSO said in a press release.

The deputy injured was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released.

Grindstaff — who had around 19 firearms and “a significant amount of ammunition” — was indicted for wanton endangerment, according to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The suspect was also previously accused of a similar act against utility workers back in 2021, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said in February.
