BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after an explosion at a Bellingham gas station injured four people, according to police.

First responders were called to the Sav-More gas station on South Main Street following reports of an explosion.

Police said a contracting company was performing routine maintenance on one of the gas pumps at the time.

Four employees working on the gas pump suffered burns in the explosion, according to police.

Police said two of those employees were severely burned, while the other two workers’ injuries were described as “less serious.”

The workers were brought to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

The exact cause of the explosion is unclear at this time.
