Woman shot man, body found in wooded area near Stuart, deputies say

The Martin County Sheriff's Office said a woman shot a man to death, and his body was found Thursday in a wooded area near Stuart.

The sheriff's office told WPTV at approximately 11:30 a.m. that it was conducting a homicide investigation near the 900 block of Southeast Darling Street.
Authorities aren't sure what time the shooting occurred.

The sheriff's office said the man who was shot to death is believed to be in his 60s.

According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, the woman was with another man at a Home Depot in Jensen Beach, when the man she was with called deputies at around 10 a.m. Thursday, and told them where the body was located.

Deputies told WPTV the woman confessed to "being in a scuffle with someone she knew" and, during that time, shot the man.

When I asked Martin County Sheriff William Snyder how the victim ended up 900 block of Southeast Darling Street, they said the body was dropped off by the woman who shot him.

"Apparently we have the shooter, we have the victim and we can go slowly. There's no rush, there's no danger to the community,” Snyder said. “We'll take our time here at the scene and then we'll take our time with our shooter and that's our best way to go forward.”

Photos from the scene showed multiple sheriff's office vehicles — including a crime scene van — parked along a narrow road in the middle of a wooded area.

Deputies told me they also found a pickup truck with a bullet hole, which they believed belonged to the victim.

It is unclear what the relationship between the woman and the victim is, but they said the woman is cooperating with detectives.
