PRT bus crashes into Pittsburgh home after it was hit by car during police chase

A Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus crashed into a house along Hamilton Avenue in Homewood on Tuesday.

PRT Spokesperson Adam Brandolph confirmed to Channel 11 that the incident started as a police chase in Monroeville. The fleeing vehicle hit the bus causing it to hit the house.

“How in the hell did this happen?” Dennis WIlliams said. He was in the house at the time. “I heard a loud smash and crash. It didn’t even shake the house. Just a noise. When I looked out, this is the sight I saw.”

He tells Channel 11 he was on the second floor when it happened.

“Usually around that time that this happened, I’m sitting on my front porch. By the Grace of God, I wasn’t, today.”

His first call was to his brother Joseph.

“He gave me a call. He says ‘I need you down the house.’ I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ He says, ‘There’s a bus on the porch.”

According to PRT, eight people were on the bus at the time. The driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital. A third person was also injured.

It took until late Tuesday evening for crews to finally remove the bus. Two wreckers had to be used to stabilize it. There is significant damage to the front porch.

Both Dennis and Joseph say it could’ve been a lot worse.

“It’s a miracle. That’s all I can say,” Joseph said.

“The only thing I can say is I’m blessed. I’m fine and I’m thankful for that,” Dennis said.

It’s unclear what happened to the suspect police had been chasing. Channel 11 did reach out to Monroeville Police for information but so far have not heard back.
