Suspect hits multiple vehicles, injures officer while fleeing police in Brighton Heights

A wanted suspect left behind a trail of destruction when he took off from officers who were trying to serve a felony arrest warrant.

Pittsburgh Police say plainclothes detectives were conducting surveillance for the warrant in the Shadeland Avenue and Etola Street area shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday.

Officers tried to arrest the man after seeing him enter a vehicle. They said he rammed into multiple vehicles and was able to get away.

“It’s pretty upsetting,” said Christina Sciulli. “It could possibly be totaled. I won’t know until I call the insurance company and they tow it back and have it looked at.”

Christina Sciulli’s Kia Sorento was one of five vehicles hit during the incident.

“I heard a series of crashes like almost like a bomb went off. Ran down the stairs, I came outside, and I saw a couple of cars smashed up, including my own,” said another neighbor who did not want to be identified. “It looks like it may be totaled. A lot of body damage, and it looks like the frame is twisted, so yeah, it’s not looking too good.”

Police say five vehicles, including two police vehicles, were damaged by the suspect. An officer inside one of the vehicles was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

“I just bought it. And just had work done to it and had it fixed.

Police say they found the suspect vehicle several blocks away, but he wasn’t inside.

The innocent bystanders who had their vehicles damaged said they’re glad no one was hurt, but this needs to stop.

“I think we need to get crime under control in this city. Sooner rather than later.”

Police haven’t identified the suspect they’re looking for. They say on top of the felony drug charges he was facing, additional charges are pending.
