Part of Route 28 shut down due to a deadly crash Tuesday morning.

Allegheny County 911 said police, fire and EMS crews were called to northbound Route 28 near Tarentum. PennDOT said the crash happened between Exit 12A (Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard) and Exit 13 (Russellton/Creighton).

Channel 11 has learned that one person died in the crash. Dispatchers said one person was taken to the hospital from the scene.

According to a Pennsylvania State Police report, the crash involved four vehicles. The report states while driving south on State Route 28, a Dodge Challenger tried to pass a Ford F-350, but hit the front right bumper. This collision caused the Challenger to lose control and go into the median, then hit the guide rail for the northbound lanes and go airborne. It then landed on top of a Dodge Dart in the northbound lanes. The Challenger was then hit by a Hyundai.

PSP says the driver of the Challenger, identified as Sheena Fitzgerald, 36, is the person who died.

PennDOT said all lanes on northbound Route 28 were closed due to the crash. They have since reopened.
