ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and state leaders addressing Georgia’s healthcare programs at a roundtable discussion in Atlanta Monday morning.

Governor Kemp talked about key milestones from the Patients First Act act which he signed five years ago in 2019.

So far, around 300,000 Georgians fall 100% below the federal poverty line and most of those are between 19 and 64 years old.

That’s why Governor Kemp wants them to sign up for two state programs: Georgia Pathways and Georgia Access.

This would make it easier to have access to healthcare and would be more affordable.

The Pathways program is for low income Georgians who either volunteer, enroll in college courses, or work while Georgia access would give private insurance options for those who do not quality for Medicaid.

So far, more than 700,000 Georgians are enrolled in the programs. Governor Kemp says the state has the 4th largest individual market for healthcare coverage in the country.

“I want more families to make ends meet and have one less thing to worry about when they sit at the dinner table. The truth is we are achieving that goal. We have covered more Georgians thanks to the patients first act, pathways and access,” said Governor Kemp.

He says 87% of counties in the state now have 3 or more insurance carriers to give consumers options with statewide insurance premiums down 11%.

Data from the 2022 census shows there are more than 1 point two million uninsured Georgians and nearly a quarter of them are under 100% of the federal poverty level.
