COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)— One local non-profit agency is preparing to host its annual luncheon to help support the group’s mission.

The Stewart Community Home is a personal care home for those who are experiencing homelessness who also have a physical or mental disability. The nonprofit has been in operation since 1976.

The home has room for 68 residents total, six of those beds reserved as transitional housing for veterans.

The facility has 60 residents, some of whom have called the site home for 30 years.

Director Jim Accordino spoke with WRBL about the impact of the upcoming fundraiser on the people who live there.

“It literally keeps the lights on. We have to provide for the residents to be able to feed them. They eat every meal here, three meals a day, two snacks a day,” Accordino said. “We wash their clothes; we turn their linens.”

In addition to those items, money raised during the luncheon will help provide hygiene items, clothing, transportation to educational or medical appointments and employment for residents.

The luncheon is set for Tuesday, Oct. 29th at the Green Island Country Club.
