MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old is being held in jail on a $200,000 bond after police say he was involved in shooting at a woman’s car over 30 times in Whitehaven on Sunday.

Nicholas Caldwell is charged with aggravated assault.

Police say they responded to an aggravated assault call in the 4000 block of Berta Road.

The victim stated she was driving on Berta Road after leaving her friend’s house when she was caught in the crossfire of what sounded like 15 gunshots. Three bullets struck her car and she was suffering from a graze wound to the upper left side of her chest.

During the investigation, officers say they found 31 rifle and handgun shell casings at the scene.

A few hours later, officers say they responded to a disturbance call at another home on Berta Road. A woman stated two men in the neighborhood were seen shooting at the female victim’s car.

At that time, Jamarcus Bates and Nicholas Caldwell were both detained.

Officers say they found parts to a disassembled Glock Switch that turns into a machine gun, multiple rifles, and handgun rounds in Caldwell’s room. That is when the two men were taken to the Violent Crime Unit for further investigation.

Bates and Caldwell were later charged and taken to Juvenile court.

Nicholas Caldwell’s next court date is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
