Family distraught after 3 killed in chase, crash in Hickory Hill

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three women killed in a five-way car crash Tuesday night have been identified by family, who are now questioning how this could have happened.

According to MPD, at around 9:30 p.m., officers tried to pull over a 16-year-old in the area of Getwell Road and Cottonwood Road.

Police say he refused to stop and officers lost him. But other officers later found him driving in the area of Kirby Parkway and East Raines Road, where they say he ran a red light, causing a five-car crash.

Patrice Hughes, 47, her daughter Dantrice Stanback, 26, and Dantrice’s cousin, Shekila Sivley, 26, were killed in the crash.

Dantrice’s two-year-old daughter, Malaysia Stanback is now hospitalized after the crash.

“She was outgoing and friendly to everybody,” the father of Shekila Sivley, Thomas Sivley said. “She never let anything get in her way.”

He questions exactly what happened in the moments before the crash and wonders what police were doing as the teen is accused of running the light.

“I really thought with the high-speed chase thing that police couldn’t do that anymore cause it’s endangering other people’s lives,” said Sivley.

He says he is still trying to process the situation.

“I never would have thought that would happen to my family,” said Sivley.

The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest with a vehicle pursuit, and having a machine gun.
